European Leaders Decry US Move as ‘Coercion’

Officials from Europe including Emmanuel Macron accused the US administration of “coercion and intimidation”, following the visa restrictions targeted figures who have been central to campaigns to introduce laws regulating US-based technology firms.

“For far too long, ideologues in Europe have spearheaded organised efforts to coerce US companies to punish American viewpoints they disagree with,” wrote the US secretary of state online. “This government will not stand for these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”

Germany, Spain, the UK and a chorus of EU officials supported the French president in criticizing the decision.
